The European Union lobbying office for Finnish organisations in Brussels has gained its ninth member with the inclusion of the INFRA association representing the Finnish civil engineering sector as of November 2017. The Brussels lobbying unit will assist INFRA in lobbying European Union institutions, with INFRA also benefiting from reporting and monitoring services with reference to particular issues of infrastructure construction.

The lobbying work of the Brussels office is organised by the Permanent Representative and his team.

“We are seeking to having an impact on the EU level decision making in terms of infrastructure construction and financing. For that reason, we feel that we really ought to have some direct influence at the point where these decisions are taken,” Paavo Syrjö explains.

“I’m sure that this European Union lobbying will be a worthwhile endeavour for INFRA, as our office is strongly established in European Union affairs and a great deal is going on in the field of infrastructure construction,” says Permanent Representative Pasi Moisio, who directs the Brussels office.

The European Union lobbying network of the Brussels office includes all of the principal stakeholders in the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Permanent Representation of Finland to the European Union, and a wide range of interest groups. In addition to SKAL and INFRA, the lobbying service represents the interests of the Employers’ Federation of Road Transport, the Federation of Finnish Enterprises, the Finnish Bus and Coach Association, the Finnish Taxi Owners Federation, the Finnish Central Organisation for Motor Trades and Repairs, the Finnish Road Association and the Finnish Driving Schools Association.

Finnish Transport and Logistics SKAL is a lobbying organisation that represents businesses providing road haulage and logistical services, with a membership of some 5,300 road haulage businesses throughout Finland. The European Union lobbying presence relies on three full-time employees. www.skal.fi @SKALry
