The SKAL Organisation
Finnish Transport and Logistics – SKAL is an organisation representing entrepreneurs and transport businesses engaged in goods haulage by road, and enterprises providing logistical services.

- oversees the business policy interests of its members
- represents its members in matters that concern them collectively
- provides a wide range of important member benefits, such as superior advisory services in matters of law and haulage finance
- arranges training
- stays abreast of principal trends in the industry and keeps members informed on an ongoing basis
- publishes Kuljetusyrittäjä, the leading periodical in the Finnish transport and logistics sector
The national SKAL organisation comprises Finnish Transport and Logistics – SKAL serving as a national confederation, together with branch and regional SKAL associations and their affiliated local associations. The total membership comprises some 7,000 road haulage businesses operating heavy goods vehicles and vans. The sovereign policymaking bodies of the organisation are the general assembly and a Board of Directors elected for a two-year term of office.
The organisation has its own publishing arm, SKAL Kustannus Oy, which is responsible for arranging a diverse range of SKAL training services and publishing the sector’s most widely read magazine Kuljetusyrittäjä.
The march of globalisation has also made international lobbying increasingly important. Finnish Transport and Logistics – SKAL is a member of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) and the Nordic Haulage Union – NLU.
