Nordic co-operation
Collaboration between the Nordic countries in the field of road transport logistics has continued for many decades. The Swedish SÅ (Sveriges Åkeriföretg), Norwegian NLF (Norges Lastebileier Forbund), Danish DTL (Dansk Transport og Logistik) and SKAL together comprise the Nordic Haulage Union – NLU (Nordisk Lastbil Union), representing the Nordic countries as a whole.
The NLU convenes annually on the invitation of one of the participating national organisations. The annual meetings are attended by the senior management of the organisations, together with specialists in various sectors, depending on the themes to be considered on the agenda. The NLU seeks to formulate a common Nordic position on topical issues of concern in the field of road haulage. During the rest of the year the organisations collaborate on a daily basis in practical matters of lobbying and member services.
The Nordic organisations collaborate closely in lobbying the European Union. A common Nordic NGO position is often sought on current Community legislation initiatives, thereby providing a firm foundation for lobbyists seeking to influence European Union policymaking. This collaboration has become even more important following the eastward enlargement of the Community.
